I have wondered when the tumblers in my own lock are going to just
crater. The whole lock mechanism seems to be a poor design since it only
locks the latch and not the door.

When you say "the dead bolt" do you mean a standard house door type dead
bolt that you affix to the inside of the airstream door. Do you have a
locksmith or some other type workman do this? What kind of cutting or
adaptation has to be done? Can you provide any pictures of your lock?

My screen door has only a small latch, so I don't understand how yours
works, but I would like to hear more since I would like to have a much
better lock on my a/s.
