I did not get the Excursion.... I got a Ford Super Duty pickup.... F-250,, 
but have been told it's really a one ton because it has the tow and the 
camper package so the same suspension as the one ton. It has 4WD and the 
powerstroke diesel.

I went with the crew cab because I decided with all the heavy stuff in the 
back if I slammed on the brakes all that would cover up the dogs.  

I decked it out with a Beaver Bed http://www.beaverbedsystems.com/ and a dog 
platform in the back seat.  Plus a few other goodies.

It tows like a dream.  A bit of overkill, but I do love it.
