I was just looking for INFO -- not absolute answers!  I would never try to 
do something as potentially dangerous as towing solely on advice from 
someone over the 'net.  Or even on the advice of several people on a very 
knowledgeable list like this one.  Everyone's situation is different.  Every 
vehicle is different, and everyone's equipment is in a different state of 
wear.

Steve, maybe this is just my own personal gender bias showing, but I'm 
nearly 100% positive that a guy would never post such a stupid question 
about towing.

Please don't worry, folks.  My husband has a great deal of experience towing 
boats with a Fury, and part of the reason we bought a large car rather than 
a truck was for my sake, so that I'll be more comfortable driving the car, 
hitched or unhitched.  I expect that by the time I absolutely must know -- 
I'll know what I need to know and asking questions is part of that process. 
I'm just asking questions for my own education, and so that I don't sound 
like a complete idiot when we visit our local Reese hitch dealer (that's 
what kind of hitch it appears to be) to get everything checked out and to 
replace parts as Jim Clark suggested in a previous post.

I have other questions about towing in general, but I'm not sure I want to 
post them now.
