Verna,

Home Depot sells a Krause brand folding aluminum ladder which will make
into a 6 foot step ladder or a 12 foot straight ladder or other kinds of
folded up positions. I have one and really like it. It folds to about
3'6" X 12" X 12" and weighs under 30 pounds. Cost under $100.
