Warren,
I also have an '85 Sovereign, and there's a small metal u-shaped clip on the
front [toward the front of the trailer] that is spring loaded... when the
table is folded away, this clip fits into the other table piece and holds
them together.  However, I have to put something in front to keep the table
from swinging out into the room.  I, too, would like to hear what others
have done.
