[a/s] More on hot water heater

Regarding electric Hott Rod AC power element that you can screw into the
drain plug of the Atwood hot water tank I have the following question.  The
add-on Hott Rod device comes with a thermostat which apparently has to be
attached to the hot water tank itself.

Does, anyone out there,  have experience attaching the Hott Rod onto a 6
gallon Atwood tank, specifically attaching the thermostat.  If anyone does
not know what I am talking about it is the rectangular doohickey pictured at
the top of the Hott Rod display in the Camping World catalogue.

If you have actually installed one yourself, especially in an Excella where
the hot water heater is underneath the bathroom counter, on the right side,
next to the toilet,  I'd appreciate any information you can give me.
