Jerry, in my home I have 16 - 6 volt golf cart batteries they are about 10
years old. They are charged by 4 - 50 watt photo panels and a 600 watt wind
generator. We use a Trace charge controller and a Trace inverter. We reduced
our electric bill from over $200 per month down to $30. The total cost
including replacing our appliance was $8600 not counting any labor.

On the Airstream we have 3 - 22 watt photo panels. We do not use a charge
controller, they are wired directly to the batteries. ((I would not suggest
that others do this, we watch our voltages closely and we don't plug in our
converter) One of the reasons why batteries like to be charged by solar is
that they get equalized often. Batteries last much longer. Once a battery is
deeply discharged it never again ever reaches full capacity. Solar re -
charges them daily and has the capacity to equalize them which mitigates
some of the damages that they may have incurred. Joe from Long Island.
