Let me add to my previous post about using a battery charger in place of a 
Univolt.
In light of other letters I have read about this subject, I want to make it 
clear that the charger must not be left on for long periods of time. (hence 
the timer)

My '70 Safari is used only for occasional camping, mostly boondocking. I want 
to be able to quickly charge the batteries at an overnight park and then move 
on to the wilds the next day. If I were replacing the Univolt on my '79 that 
I live in, and which is kept plugged in most of the time, I would most 
certainly replace it with a GOOD converter or at least a three-stage battery 
charger that would not overcharge the batteries.
