AFAIK propane is both more volatile and more flammable (lower flash point) than
gasoline.  Also, unlike gasoline, propane containers are under pressure and if
they are damaged the propane will escape violently and form a large flammable
cloud in the vicinity.

I don't have a hazmat book in front of me but suppose the codes are different. 
Maybe one of the fireman types on the list can clarify this?
