I never travel with my propane tanks open.  Things stay fine in the fridge 
for many hours if you don't open the door.

I did travel once with the propane open, had to stop before I got to gas 
pumps and shut it off, then pull away from gas pumps and turn it back on...it 
was a real pain in the butt.

I have a 200-250 mile a day travel limit..... so nothing has time to go bad.
