Wally,
Your notes on tambour doors were a model of clarity and good
information.  It seems to me that using canning wax blocks, as I do on
the drawers of antique chests, would be a plus. It is available in
markets with canning supplies (usually a GULF product with their logo).
it is in about 1/2 inch X 4 inch X 2 inch (apx) sections.  Wax overcomes
the problem with antique drawers when humidity swells the wood.  I
usually apply a light rubbing on both surfaces and then work the drawer
back and forth to smooth the application.  I've used paste wax also. 
Water and humidity are repelled and the paraffin acts as a lubricant.  A
plus is that it's clean and seals raw wood, or in this case masonite.
