You know the last time I checked, Naugas were on the endangered species
list and even if you find the hydes through a black market source they
will be very expensive.

But seriously, I have always been under the impression that naugahyde
was the brand name for vinyl from an early supplier/manufacturer which
has long been forgotten, maybe Dupont or somebody. They are making a
really good variety of vinyl coverings which today which are almost
indiscernible from leather or a number of other surfaces. Were you
thinking of the really shinny stuff like on soda fountain stool, etc. in
the fifties? You might try a good auto upholstery shop. They will have
many sample books to choose from.
