	This is a good question. IMHO- the ferro-resonant type has two things
going for it. They are just about as bullit-proof as you can get, and the
will accept a fairly wide range of input voltages and maintain a set output
voltage.
	The dissadvantages are weight, noise (they are meant to hum), and the fact
that they do not have the "staged" charge that is best for batteries. They
are, however, much better than the typical linear converters found in most
SOB's. (The other dissadvantage is that they will not operate off of
generators very well- they are frequency sensitive).

	I did just remove a "weak" 75 amp FR converter, and replaced it with 2 55
amp Progressive Dynamics "IntelliPower" converters- simply for the faster
charging offered (with the "Charge Wizard) it offers true 3-stage charging,
14.4v, 13.8v and 13.2v). But... one reason that I used 2 is so that if one
breaks down, there will still be a backup (plus the customer has 2 8D
batteries (?!) and generally has power for 12 out of every 24 hours).
	But.... if it was me, I would probably just use the 950 that you have-
that's what I have, and I've never had a problem with it- it *can* charge
at the full 50 amps.
