Yes Delvac 1 is expensive. I found a receipt from last year and it cost me 
$70.32 a case which is (4) 1 gallon bottles/case. That's about $4.40/qt. I 
checked and Mobil has a web site that has a lot of specs. and info on their 
products including the one I mentioned.
I guess it all depends how long a person plans to keep their vehicle and how 
often they have the oil changed. I usually let mine go for an extra 1000 
miles between changes. The extention of the oil change makes the pricey oil 
easier to justify. To make sure I could go the distance with extended oil 
changes I sent a sample of my oil to Mobil to anaylize. I did this for a 
couple of years at each change. They would send me a report that explained in 
detail the condition of the old oil and basiclly the condition of the engine( 
traces of metal particles, soot,etc.). At the time, a local Mobil 
engineer/rep.sent it in for me at no charge as if I was a trucking co.
In my humble opinion, if a person is only going to keep their diesel for 5 to 
8 years and only 150,000 it probably really doesen't matter about the brand 
or syn.or not. I am trying to keep mine running as long as I can. As long as 
I can still buy parts for the body and have the airconditioner recharged I 
know the engine should last me at least till the truck sees its 25th 
birthday. That's only 9 more years! 
This is probably more information than you were looking for... I am not an 
expert on trucks or oil but this stuff has produced good results for me. I 
started to use syn. oil (Mobil 1) in 1977 in a 76 chevy van with a gas 
powered 350 and that van is still in use today and has never had an engine 
overhall.
