I've had a Ford diesel since 84 and change my own oil. I have used a Mobil 
Delvac 1 syn. oil in it since after the first 5000 miles. 
Its a syn. made for diesels called Delvac 1. Check it out, great stuff. I 
replaced the head gaskets on the engine a couple of years ago because of an 
external water leak. The parts showed almost no wear. Disclaimer; I don't 
work for or have stock in Mobil.
