Dave,
I can't comment on the new, new Power Stroke engine that I believe has just
been released or is about to be released, but I have an 02 Excursion with
the 7.3 engine. it was replaced in mid-year 03 with the 6,0 and I do not have
specifics, but I have heard many folks thoughts about the 7.3 being a much
better engine. There were apparently a number of problems with the 6.0 and it
only had a 36 month drivetrain warranty. I bought my vehicle in late 02, the
03's were out, but specifically looked for an '02 for the 7.3 which I knew
to be a known good engine. Ford has or is already replacing the 6.0 diesel
with a new engine which would likely be a strong indication that the 6.0 isn't
all it should be.
