[VAL] re: flapping straps

Dr G,
Walmarts and other such big box stores sell a sealed-cell foam
tube with an inner hole
about 3/4 " in diameter and an outer wall thickness from about 3/4 "
up to about 1 1/2 ".
they come in a variety of colors, and are sold as a water toy. They
are durable, and
while they will fade in the Arizona sun, they appear to be otherwise
UV resistant. I have
adapted them to several uses, such as preventing auxilliary awning
anchor strap flapping,
awning bar forehead cushions, and windshield wiper blade covers while
stationary. they
cost about $2-$2 1/2, but can be found cheaper at end of summer...they
are more durable
than the pipe foam to which you refer, and the thicker diameter walls
may help increase
your holding position. They are easily cut with a serrated knife, both
lengthwise and
across.
