    All,

    Thanks to you all for ideas and suggestions.  You know what I'll be
doing today.  

    Among other things, I plan on lighting up the water heater and then
sitting on a milk crate until it flames out again.  Hmmm, maybe I'll sit at
a 45 degree angle to the burner pipe just to be safe.

    I'll also diddle with that big screw combined with adjusting the air
slots after witnessing the expected flameout.
