When I restored/customised my TradewindI thought other than my labour it
would not cost too much ovse the years I spent a$100 hear and there until if I
eaver added it up it would drive me T o sevear DREPRESSION,.You need to look on
it as a hobby as I believe as far as a finational investment it is a total loss
But the reward is in the sense of achivement.

if you do all the labor yourself and have no skin damage and get the absolute
rock bottom price on all the parts IF you can even find them, yada -- you MIGHT
get it done for 7K$...
I was quite happy to turn mine over to a great friend who has since
reconstructed his trailer although it is one size down from yours.
I had an easy $1.5k in its running gear/tires, etc when I swapped it to him for
considerations unstated here. perhaps he will own up as to how much more he put
into fixing up the interior and windows, appliances, etc. Most of us really do
not count the $$$ because we would never take on such a project if we were
empowered to be able to look down the road and foresee the cost in labor and
dollars.
As stated, it is a hobby that keeps us busy in our retirement fixated on an
object we hope to get done while we are still young enough to enjoy the trailer.
For some of us, it is a last effort towards "accomplishing something with our
lives" as we near the end of our trips thru life.

I do much the same thing with vintage single shot rifles, etc.

I am the friend who continued the restoration of the ' 68 Tradewind that
Charles had begun when I acquired it from him. As Charles said, I didn't
consider the cost as even a consideration in redoing the trailer and I have
never totaled up all the receipts for the expenses I incurred in the
project. I still have the receipts as a part of the history of this
Airstream and maybe one day I will add them up. Short of that, I would SWAG
the cost of repairs I did to be in the neighborhood of $7,000. That does not
include the cost of the earlier work Charles had done. When I relocated the
trailer to Atlanta and applied for registration plates with the motor
vehicle department, the plate I was issued was 7000 DC. Since we are members
of the Washington, DC unit of WBCCI, I thought that was an appropriate tag
for me.

Jim I think that plate is kinda neet. Much the same reasion I applied and got
the Purple Hart plate for my Tradewind.Funny thing happened last summer I had
a person come up to me and ask how he could get one of those neet plates!!!!!

Chris

My family has a summer home over in Sussex (Lake Wallkill) - sometime when
I'm there I'll have to look you up and check out the new trailer. I almost
bought a 57 off route 206 a few years ago.

We are really enjoying the feeling of the Airstream family. Having been
camping for years now as a family we have made some good friends. Walking
into a larger and friendlier Family is a bonus. I think we pretty much
decided that we want it, unless after this weekend's cleaning, I find
something Major with it we will be purchasing it.
