Hi All,

I would like to thank everyone for all their advice and insight into this. We are really
enjoying the feeling of the Airstream family. Having been camping for years now as a
family we have made some good friends. Walking into a larger and friendlier Family is a
bonus. I think we pretty much decided that we want it, unless after this weekend's cleaning,
I find something Major with it we will be purchasing it.

Once again thanks. Hope to meet some of you on the road. I sure I'll be doing my share of
asking questions.

Hi Thomas,

Always nice to get a second opinion on things. I tend to get blinders on at times when I find
something I want. Let me clean it out so that its easy to go through and when you have some
spare time to come up we'll make arrangements.

You wouldn't be part of one of the NJ Airstream clubs would you?

I've been rebuilding the galley in my 1975 Sovereign and have to replace the
tambour material in the doors. A search of Tom Patterson's site came up
with one posting where someone bought a 4x8 sheet of material from an
Airstream dealer for $243.00 or so. But the dark walnut is no longer
available.

Winona Manufacturing http://www.winonamanufacturing.com/
has this material in the proper color (#243) for $48.00 a 4x8 sheet. Quite
a difference.

The salesman is quite knowledgeable about vintage Airstreams, and knew just
what color I needed when I described the trailer.

Just for information, in case someone wants to save a little money.

Er....Hi again Jim:

I would be happy to scan and send you a copy of the electrical diagram and
will do so later today. If you need a copy of the whole manual, they
apparently are available from someone at Airstream HQ in Jackson Center. I
don't remember what the name is or the particulars but I'm sure that someone
on the list does and would be glad to provide same.

FWIW,

On my 68 Caravel there is no "command center" as described in some of
the recent posts. It seems to me to be very much a base model with few
of the bells and whistles some folks describe for their same year and
model trailer. I previously owned a 69 Overlander which did have the
command center, this in the front overhead cabinet. My Overlander was
an "International" model, and from the recent discussion, it seems
likely to me that the command center is something that was an upgrade
option on the "Land Yacht" trim models, but standard equipment on the
International. Also, my Caravel is a California-made coach. If I'm not
mistaken, the Santa Fe Springs plant was closed soon after 1968, so
coaches rolling out of there in 1968 may have been low-end, close-out
models.

Wild speculation, but hey, I'm good at that.

Not on the 68 Land Yacht Tradewind, Steve. My trailer has the comand center
and it isn't the International trim. It does not have the scare light
recently discussed.

I think you have the wrong number and price.
That may be a price for a plastic tambour but I just
called the factory and it was about $75 plus shipping.
Still not too bad a price for repair of all the doors.
One sheet will work well.

You're absolutely right. I don't know where I got the $48.00 price from.
$75.00 is correct.

I believe a lot of light can be shed here by describing the difference
between a Land Yacht & an International Land Yacht. Many of the
International;s I've seen have some sort of "Command Center" above the front
window including tank capacity lights, water pump controls and polarity
lights. Clocks. ets in some. They also often have a water filtration
system under the sink and may have a streetside/curbside reversal of
floorplan in the galley. My 69 Overlander International is as the Sovereign
described. The tank capacity lights are a bad joke but the rest of the
gauges approach functionality if one persistently pushes the right switch.
I also still had one of the styrofoam 4X8 speakers (since removed) in the
curved headrail in front , no rear speakers (unlike Dr Green's Tradewind).
The switch closest to the door (front) operates the mid cabin overhead, if
it is in "ON" position, the one further forward under the curtains, is for
the "scare light".
Do not despair the lack of a "command center", it is a bewildering array of
redundant and incomprehensible wiring.
