I got some from Inland that worked for the space between the door and the
trailer and it was supposed to work on the screen door part but was too thick so
I still have the old and deteriorating stuff there, no leaks yet, but I live
in a dry climate. I think the best thing is to go to auto parts store and get
some small pieces of what is available and try them in the space you need to
fill up.

for some reason, no one ever thinks to look at JC Whitney for RV parts and
supplies. do not know why that is.
I have bought a lot of "gaskets" as I call them, from this company. If you will
contact them from their website, they will send you an RV catalog and in it, you
will find pictures of each of the 25 or so versions of weatherproofing strips
they carry as well as cross section drawings with dimensions.
and a whole lot more! prices are certainly competitive with OTHER providers
mentioned on this list... who shall go nameless <G>

Hi Gang,

If you'd like to see the famous New England Fall Foliage with its most
brillant, intense colors, then Eastern New York State is the place. The
entire area of New York bordering Vermont and Massachusetts is at peak color
this week (third and fourth week in October).

There's a convenient state campground at Thompson's Lake near East Berne, NY
15 miles west of Albany, NY (518.872.1674). The exact location is 4 miles
north of East Berne on SR 157 and 3 miles east of Thatcher State Park.

At Thatcher Park, there's a massive overlook on a high escarpment with a
spectacular view up and down the Hudson River and east into Vermont.

I've found a wide variety of gaskets and seals at McMaster-Carr.
http://www.mcmaster.com. Search under "door gaskets". Also under
polyurethane foam, EPDM foam, silicone foam, and nitrile foam. Many of
these come in simple rectangular shapes, EPDM comes in D and ribbed
gasket shapes. Most of these materials will have significantly greater
longevity than found in foam rubber products from J. C. Whitney.

While rooting through catalogs in parts store for shocks to fit my old
Monitor SOB (being made into a flat bed utility trailer I found that
Monroe makes shock mounting kits for the Dexter Torsion spring axles.
Monroe (or NAPA) part numbers RB-516 and RB-517 depending on axle load.
With options depending on frame member shape. Shocks to be selected
depending on the axle position, so not part of the kit. One local parts
store with the Monroe catalog had no price for the kits. NAPA quoted me
about $46 each kit. The catalog is unclear whether the kit is for one
axle or one end.

I sold mine and am towing with my favorite - a Pullrite. I would NEVER buy
another Reese/equalizer etc hitch. going from a white nuckel experience, day
after day pulling my trailer with my Suburban thru WY and CO and so on, to a
Pullrite, was like taking 100lbs of care off my back. My wife still - 5 yrs
later now, remarks how calm and rested I am at the end of a typical 650 mile day
pulling thru 40mph winds and passing 80mph Class 8's with their bow waves. it
is just one heckuva change that nothing can compare it to. These pullrites can
be bought for less than $500 if you look for a used one.
I have the one that came off my Suburban leaning against the wall of my house in
the driveway. I know that eventually someone will want it or I will put it on
ebay... in the meantime, it brings back wonderful memories while the "new" used
one on my E350 continues the restful towing experience.

never knock one until you pull with one. I will knock a Reese or other knock
off all day long!! I really hate them. especially the ridiculousness of that
friction "antisway" mechanism and I was using two of them !!

enuff, get a pullrite if you do not want a Hensley! but never knock either until
you have tried either or both. I did not like the Hensley, way too complicated
with a hundred fragile parts that took ramming the trailer, etc.
The pullrite is easier to hook up than the Hensley or the Reese type.

JCW also sells these "sandwich" or foam filled strips and does so by 50 foot
rolls. anyway, I urge people to look at both sites and get both catalogs. I do
not know if I could get along without either of the books or websites for that
matter.

MC is going to charge more for the very same product out of JCW so always look
at JCW last.

Subject: [VAL] Floor Joining Questions

We are very close to installing the new floor in our 1957 Caravanner.

Q: I located new elevator bolts, but what do I do as far as JOINING the plywood
seams together? Originally there were flat metal like staples approx. every
four inches. Even if I located new ones I would not know how to install. Any
suggestions?

Q: What R factor insulation is recomended to put between the floor and the frame?

Q: I am having a difficult time locating 4' x 12' sheets to install a new belly
pan, any leads on locating such large sheets?

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated

If you go to the lumber yard and tell them you want plywood clips, the kind
used in roof sheeting for houses. They are very thin alumunim and come in
different sizes for different size plywood. The other choice is tongue & groove.
I welded a piece of steel down the center, as you cannot put one piece of
plywood, and get it under both the sidewalls at one. If you want photos of how I
did ours, contact me off list and I will send you what pictures I have.

I suppose you could contact Airstream directly, and find out what they
suggest for an r factor. I put rigid foam under the floor of the Crusette. It
comes in 11/2 and 3 inch I think. The lumber yard will have this also, and tell
you the R factor of each. It is foam core, with foil on both sides, and you can
cut it witha large knife, to shape it in between the frame ribs.

                   Hope this helps,
