I just had my old Armstrong replaced. Chose to go with a Duo-Therm Penguin A/C,
with the heat strip. Didn't really need the heat strip since I have a catalytic
heater in addition to the Suburban heater, but it was only $40.00 more and the heat
strip is supposed to be able to take the chill out pretty quick. One draw back
on the heat strip is that it's not thermostatically controlled.
Back on choosing an A/C unit, the choices are limited if you want one that will
drain out the bottom instead of down the sides of the trailer. That is why I chose
the Duo-Therm Penguin because you can get the drip pan with it and it will connect
to the drain tube and the water will drain just like the old Armstrong unit out
the belly pan, not down the sides and along the seams. Plus it's low profile, like
that, oh and it's quite, like that too. We just got back from a trip to Myrtle
Beach and the A/C was great, especially since we spent 3 days in Destin, FL with
no A/C.
