Re: [VACList] rivet question
Jerry
That's just a plain pull-thru type rivet. You can get them at some auto parts
store, have even seen them at WalMart. The rivets are cheap. The rivet gun
comes with 3-4 different size nose pieces on them so you can use different
diameter rivets.
Though the rivets are pull through and shouldn't be used on the outside skin of
an A/S you can use them for other things like curtain tracks. The good thing
about the gun is that you can shoot 3/32, 1/8, and 5/32 Cherry and Olympic
fasteners which the shank breaks at a predetermined length (which the rivets
are measured by diameter and grip length)these also have a locking collar to
help secure the rivet pin after instalation. These type of fasteners are not
cheap though. Cherry or Cherry Max have a gold stem whereas the Olympic are
silver and blend better on an A/S. Olpmpics are cheaper than Cherry rivets
mainly because of strength/performance. In Aviation CherryMax rules for pull
type fasteners.
I know it's probaly more info than you wanted but hey, it's free.
