[VAC] Re: A question about springs

Hi Phil,

I have a '60 Tradewind with the same spring configuration which you show in
the photograph. I just measured mine and I have 4 1/4 inches of clearance
between the bottom of the skid plate and the pavement. My skid plate looks
as if it was formed from a flat piece of steel and was bent down at the
forward and trailing edge. The U bolts which go through the plate do not
protrude beyond the bent portion of the plate. The nuts on the U bolts are
protected by the front and rear edges of the skid plate. If I am seeing
correctly in your photograph, the U bolts go way beyond your skid plate and
thus are not protected by the skid plate. The only other item I can think
of which might affect the clearance is the tire size. I am currently using
7:00 x 15 inch LT tires with a 6 ply nylon cord (8 ply rating) pressurized
to 60 psi.
