Jerry,
 The trick to not having to pull forward is to anticipate the trailer's
movements and make corrections well before you think you need to. Going
very slowly helps a bunch, as does [more] practice.

That said, if you have to make a very sharp turn, you'll almost always
have to pull forward to get things straight. If you watch the
professional truck drivers in a tight spot, you'll see that they do
also. :-)
