After all the work getting my wheels squared away, see the wheels thread above, there was still a rough ride to contend with. I thought the sometimes harsh ride was due to the old hard truck suspension. Possibly agrivated by faulty shocks. After removing one front and one rear shock I noticed the axles had less than one inch of travel available until the shock would be fully collapsed. That should make for a firm ride over any kind of rough surface. Looking up shocks by application 67 Ford p400/4000 motorhome chassis did not work. The Bilstein spec book is not very adaquite for looking up shocks by specifications either. So it looks like Monroe's will have to do. I am trying to find a shock that will provide three and a half inches of movement above and below the standing mount position. I have located a couple of promising numbers to check out.

Mike,
Have you contacted the Newell website. I think that maybe they could help, as I know there are still '67 Newells out there, and they should be the same shocks.

Thanks Tom I will look into that. Probably the springs have sagged over the years causing the center of travel to move to the bottom of the shock. Even though the rear shocks are definately worn out. The ride is not bad but I think new shocks could improve it. Also at some point I could break a shock mount if some sort of corrective action is not taken. I do not think I want to beef up the springs so I am looking for shocks with the same overall movement and load ability only a different center of travel. I have some part numbers that seem to fit the bill but that is as far as I have gone at this point.
