I have a 74 30ft Streamline Imperial. I am not sure about the sewer system. I have it connected and the valve pulled open. However, I am unsure as to whether it is emptying properly. Is there something I am failing to do? I thought as long as the valve was open it would empty ALL the contents.
Thanks,

The 74 model should have had two dump valves. One for black water and one for gray water. If you are connected to a sewer system, the black water should be closed until you have to dump. This would allow a swirling action to occur that should sucessfully drain the tank. The gray water tank can be open at all times to allow sink and shower water to freely drain out. If you have been leaving both valves open, you could have a blocked system. I think I would close the valve, fill the tank with water and let it sit for awhile and drain. Then repeat this process several times until the block is broken up.
Keep us posted.

Thanks James for the input. When you refer to leaving the valve closed you are talking about the grey tank. The release handle has been broken off in the open position on the grey side.
Thanks,

Yes. The gray water drains only sink, shower and lavatory. The black is toilet only. The black should be closed until you have to drain the tank. You may want to replace the handle. if you travel, you will have to seal off the system. Do you have a cap that closes off the drain system for travel? If you are camping self contained, it will be impossible to allow the gray water tank to operate as intended if you cannot close the valve.

Thanks for the input James. The grey water tank handle is broken in the open position. I can hear the water running from the sink, shower, etc. The black tank is alway open. There is also a door with a pressure valve where you can put in water? The trailer is at my hunting club and hasnt been move in 3 years. It stays attached to a sewer system. That is why I though both valve were suppose to be open always. I bought it where it sits 3 years ago.

Even if you are hooked up to full sewer facilites, it would be wise to close the black water valve. solids accumulate at the bottom of the tank when dry and if there is no water to build in the tank, you could set up for a very bad cleaning job at some point. I would strongly recommend closing that black water valve, filling the tank up with water and draining several times. you will also have strong odors in the warmer months. Even though an RV is self contained, it still has to be used properly regarding sewer drainage to save you lots of time and repair.

Good Luck!
