1972 Streamline Countess Imperial?

Streamline Message Board: Message Board Postings: 1972 Streamline Countess Imperial?
By ww1 on Monday, October 09, 2000 - 05:41 pm:

I call it all that as above the blue italics STREAMLINE raised letters on the front and rear are raised block letters that spell COUNTESS, and on the side there is a rectangular gold colored plate that has a crown on top of it and across the plate it says IMPERIAL. Supposed to be 28 foot. I guess I got the highest bid and tomorrow I'm supposed to get it outa there to satisfy a debt of being at a trailer court and back rent owed on it. A few floor soft spots, no refrig, no bottles, couch or matress.. Straight outside, tires fair, AC works and all the lights, including running lights. All the gold annodized trim appears to be there. Been sitting 5 years, but heated. Another project, but seems less than my 56 Silver Streak. One of these days I just might have a trailer I can take a trip with!

Imperial was one of the designations used to specify the various trailer options. Kind of like XLT, or LARIAT in a vehicle. I am going to try to post one of the Streamline brochures (1973) that I received from James Thompson on the site later today. You can see the mention of the Imperial in this brochure.

By Tom Patterson on Tuesday, October 10, 2000 - 03:08 pm:

Ok, the 1973 brochure has been uploaded to the site. It is in the Streamline section under "Streamline Brochures". On reviewing this brochure, you will note that in earlier days, camping dress was considerable less casual than it is today, except possibly with the SL Series of trailer. Certainly, high heels were a necessity, and dining required the use of fine china and crystal, together with candles.

Going through the papers in this trailer has an original owners manual. Also a 6 page typed letter from the Original Dealer, Johnson Trailer Sales, Seattle, WA. to the new customer (no name)Came with a built in vac, that appears to be missing. The refrig hole was made into some funky shelves. The E-Z AWN arms are there but no canvas. All the overhead interior is intact, galley cabinets, sink really good. The bath vent needs work. Has a working 1yo Coleman AC unit. Magic Chef stove. Missing vent over stove. Needs a water heater. Shower and toilet were being used up to the week before, when the hot water quit. Floor really soft in places. Tongue jack no good (is hydraulic) Outside dent in left rear real low, bumper pushed into it. Trim around wheel wells missing. Looks to have been a twin bed, made into a permanent double bed and shelves. Very hard to get around it. Easily fixed. No broken glass. Plugged in to tow home, one clearance light didn't light. One center back up light lens broke. Guess it's been sitting since 1995, was hooked up to sewer and heated, and sometimes lived in, a day here and there. Wife likes it, or the potential, we'll see if she says that in a month or so. Yard is getting full fast!

Sounds like you have a project that I live for. Everything you mentioned can be fixed but may cost a little. Since the Fridge is missing, you maywant to check this site for used. It probably had a 7 cubic foot dometic since mine is a '72 with the original dometic. This site has a listing and I know for a fact that Cherokee parts which is listed on this site in Denver frequently has those in stock for about 350.00 to 500.00. I have the original central vac installed just inside the door near the floor and it works perfect. I have not seen those at all. Stove hoods are easy to find cheap. If you are lucky like me, your kitchen counters are white along with the walls and the sink and stove are stainless. Makes it generic and un-dated when you start fixing up...no green or gold to work around. You may have the the 6 gallon hwh but possibly the 10 gallon gas/electric. Those are fairly cheap used but you would be better off with new. I just had my new 10 gal replaced this summer and simply used paint stripper on the almond painted cover. Then, I simply polished the aluminum for a factory appearance. You can even find high grade aluminum sealant that makes an invisible seam. Your bumber dent should be minor to pull out. How much did you have to pay out of curiosity? Incidently, the brochures posted of the '73 were in my trailer when I purchased it 6 years ago. The trailer backed in by the water behind the carryall is identical to my 33 foot 1972 Imperial. Keep us posted.

I forgot to mention that the marker lenses are also available at Cheerokee in Denver. I found amber and red to replace the faded and sun damaged originals. Some are new and some are used. I also know that they have the original HEHR cranks for the metal roof vents on the Streamline for less than $3.00 each. I had to replace one recently and it only requires drilling out and riveting and sealing the new one. Their address and phone number is listed on this message board under the listing for "vintage parts." Good Luck!

Thanks for the info! supposed to be 27'.Twin bed, but homemade into double. Doesn't work as side is not narrow like is should be. Have to climb over bed to get to bath. Turning it back to twins. In the "trunk", is a box with all the vac stuff intact! (and it works!)The interior is like a white fiberglass skin from part way up the sides all the way over the top. Wood paneling lower to floor. Countertop appears to be fiberglass (white) Magic Chef stainless steel stove. Table missing. Front couch missing. Theres a tank and battery monitor on the wall, left of sink, partly disassembled.A radio mounted in the cabinet above the front window and a shelf right under the window. Gold frames around the windows. The curved awning arms are there but no awning. It's called E-Z-Awn. There is a Dometic owners manual in the papers. Guy plumbed in a 20 gal home style electric hot water tank Heater. New Theford toilet. Underbelly intact looks ok. 2 tubes stick out the front underneath to put sewer line into (gold caps on them)The decals still show the "jack pad" underneath. A lot more floor is soft than what I first thought.I got it for paying the 3 months back rent on the space it was in. My 56 Silverstreak 27'project needs to go, to help fund this project.

I meant 28 foot. I guess it's supposed to have a rear window cover too which isn't there. Bathroom sliding door needs help but the full length mirror is intact. The wood cabinet faces could use a refinish. The front of the brand new toilet has heat marks on it like an electric heater was too close to it. It's also got old Firestone tires, like really old. I'm suprised, there's a 1978 receipt for tires in the drawer. But it made it the 65 mile trip home!

Sounds like you have lots of work to do. All of the things that you mentioned are like my '72. Still have the shelf under the front window but I think only the Crown Imperial would have had the aluminum window awning over the bathroom. My monitor panel in the kitchen still works except for black water holding tank light. The jack pad is for lifting the trailer up if you have to do any spring work. That is the area that you can safely lift the trailer off its wheels. The crank down levelers at each corner will not support the weight. I just removed my original sofa from my Streamline and have it stored in my basement. I bought a newer hide-a-bed that takes up less room and is much lighter. My friends here in Denver have a 28foot 71 Countess that is in excellent condition. It has the light paneling inside so is much brighter. I am waiting for my new A&E awning from Camping World this week. They are the only ones I believe that still make the side arms for the Streamline/Silver Streak. I have the original EZ Awning on my trailer that I have replaced the fabric on but it is very difficult to operate and the roller does not lock in place when I travel. I will be discarding it when I have the new one installed. The Central Vacuum is relatively simple and if you re-install it and have questions, I can check mine and let you know what wire goes where. It is as it was originally. Opening the little black door for the hose activates the suction motor and it vents outside under the trailer. The interior is embossed leather grain looking plastic coated aluminum and goes all the way down to the paneling. This is real easy to maintain. I originally cleaned mine with 409 and a scrub brush and it is perfect. I think my friends twin beds measure out at 33 wide by 80 inches long. These are custom mattresses unless you get some cut foam rubber. Keep us posted!

Haven't even had time to open the door this weekend. Had 30 year high school reunion. Started with 60 graduated in 1970, 8 have died, 39 showed up this weekend, 2 never married, only 8 are with original spouse (including me)Ok, back to trailer. My EZ Arms are there, they go up and down. No awning at all... My son works part time for a guy who does upolstery, when I get that far. When we figure out what layout we want in front, we'll get a hide-a-bed the right color and get the rest, curtains, etc to match. Right now floor is priority. Garage 2 feet too short to fit. Old garage would have worked but lost in fire last year. (the fine print in insurance stinks) Hate to open up this close to winter, already getting frost. Still need to check out heater. AC is supposed to have heat strip in it. I have 2 wiring diagrams AC and DC shows all the wiring but it doesn't get detailed to what color goes where. Actually this is the first project I've been interested in getting going and hoping to finish in a timely manner in a long time. Well 5 comes early in the AM!

Well with all good intentions comes the dark side. With our stolen check and identity fiasco still going on, the time being devoted to keeping us afloat says we have to put this one up for sale also. You can see from previous postings it needs a ton of work, but I'm going to be firm on $1800..If it goes we'll be in a better financial position to fight the fraud thing, if not I guess I'll still have a project this late winter or early spring..Will post ad in the ad section...Maybe some day another one will appear that we can actually keep and use...

By James on Saturday, January 06, 2001 - 06:46 pm:

Sorry that you must give up this challenge.
Good luck on the fraud situation.

By ww1 on Tuesday, October 24, 2000 - 08:55 pm:

Well I have a semi firm offer on my 56 Silver Streak. If that comes through in time, I may be able to hang onto this Streamline afterall, but I took the homemade double bed out and all the homemade shelving, looks better already. The left side bed framing is intact, covering the water tank and it looks like a transformer.... Stumbled upon a 72 Silver Streak today. Also my son told me just down the road there is an older Airstream for sale, so when we went to the store I had him point it out, as it's on a side road that the school bus goes down. Well guess what. It's a Silver Streak Identical to my 56 SS. Even has the name Rocket over the SS name. It was behind the gate and it didn't look like anyone was home so I didn't get out. Where are these when I'm looking?!

By james on Wednesday, October 25, 2000 - 01:27 pm:

Sure hope you get to keep the Streamline. It does sound like a real challenge though.

By ww1 on Wednesday, October 25, 2000 - 10:27 pm:

Looks like the tank is intact under the bed. It looks just like the pictures on the other posting about wiring. A 20 gallon house hot water tank was plumbed into the trailer in the closet beside the bathroom same side as(must have taken out the wakk to get it in. Going to take out and use in my garage, and replace it with what is supposed to be there.) But beside the water tank is what appears to be a transformer... Going to scrub the inside this weekend and see what shines up and what does not. Has some reddish-orange spots on the overhead in places, either rust stains(?) or mold.. The front vent works real good. The bath vent was replaced with some chinsy thing. Paneling real dark. Would be nice if it were lighter, lots of cracks and scrapes. All those homemade shelves had little brackets screwed into the wall. Noticed in the brochure it made mention you can tell a twin bed model from the outside as it has the extra storage door on the curb side...

By ww1 on Friday, November 03, 2000 - 08:59 am:

Well this week I had to do see an eye specialist to get whatever was on my eyelids scratching my eyes, scraped off. (not fun) Needless to say the trailer is still in the same spot, and condition.

By ww1 on Sunday, November 19, 2000 - 10:19 pm:

Looked out the window and the Streamline is right where I put it a few weeks ago. I can see again (phew) and I'm back to work, however now there is a flyer circulating on the cutback to 16 from 29 employees by September of next year. (contracting out the work being done by the 13 positions being eliminated). Between January and 1 Oct. 2001 my position will be gone, I'll either move down, be laid off or bought out.( my eligable first oportunity (sp) to retire is March 2002.) I'm 4th senior there, but excellent evals can add up to 12 years onto your seniority above your physical time, for the case of reducing the personnel, but not for retirement.Told them they could "give" me or let me "buy" 6 months next September and I'd take it and run! But the "knives" are starting to be thrown, you gotta keep your back to the wall...So I guess the project is slowed down even further as the "bills" have priority..Wife wonders if I'll ever bring anything home that doesn't need work before it can be used. Haven't in the 25 years we've been married, why start now? Maybe tomorrow I can do some scrubbing. Been getting down to the low 20's here the past 5 nights, up to 45.

By ww1 on Monday, December 18, 2000 - 04:02 pm:

Well I actually did something to her today. Plugged in and all the interior lights work, the monitor panel works, even the clock! Radio works. Air Conditioner works, vaccum, well not yet. Don't have any bottles yet to try out the furnace. Would probably take $1300 for her (a little plug for my ad) concidering Christmas is near, but after the first of the year, and it starts warming up, so does price. Project right now is an 89 Suzuki Sidekick left rear axle shaft. Got ran off the road, spun around and hit the curb with left rear wheel, bent the rim and axle. Housing ok but that axle shaft isn't cheap, and it has to be ordered.. Waiting to see if one comes up in a wrecking yard..

By ww1 on Friday, December 22, 2000 - 10:15 pm:

Horray! Sheriff called today, they caught someone with our checks! There's only about 65 that haven't been attempted to be cashed out of 150. Got an offer for $800 on the trailer. Told him SEE YA!...There's too much there for that little. Asked Santa for a propane hot water heater or a propane refrig for Christmas, or even some plywood for the floor...Merry Christmas!!

By William Wold on Tuesday, February 06, 2001 - 07:47 pm:

Well, trailer is right where I left it. What can I say. Spent time rebuiding chimney on home as it separated in the wall and almost burnt the house down. Seem to find projects with more priority than the trailer....Guess it's been a while since I've been here, it doesnt like me!
