Hi Tom
My wife and I took a short trip in August. we passed through Montana and Idaho on our way East and returned to Seattle along US Hwy 2. Thought you might like to see a couple of pictures.

Fire behind hill

Fine on hill

The following picture, which was also sent to me by Mike Kinney has circulated all over cyberspace without the identity of the photographer. He was John McColgan, a fire behavior analyst working as a firefighter. It was taken from a bridge over the Bitterroot River with a digital camera. John is from Alaska. Since he was working as a Forest Service firefighter, the shot is public property and cannot be sold, but it is a fabulous shot. The fire overran 100,000 acres and destroyed 10 homes.

The deer fire print was given to me by a forest worker while I was in Helena. It is nice to know who the actual auther is.
