I have a line on a 19foot 1962 SS and am trying to get a handle on its value. It is said to be in excellent condition inside and out.Interested on what people would suggest a fair price for it would be.

Hi Simon,
I just bought my first trailer two weeks ago, a Silver Streak 18? foot for $1300.00 in Bend, OR. The unit is straight and clean, with a baseball size dent in the upper rear passenger side corner radius. The propane tanks are out of date. Otherwise, it is very original. I feel I got a very good deal on it, as the seller had inherited it from his wifes' parents and had not done his homework.

By KA on Sunday, April 20, 2003 - 08:56 pm:

simon,
I have been looking at trailers for sale for nearly a year. I recently bought a 1970 Silver Streak for $5800. The body is in good shape with no major dents. The interior had been redone. Not original but nice. All systems working. Ok tires, nice rims, acceptable brakes, new dual large propane tanks.

Out of date propane tanks is no problem. Any propane supplier (not gas station) can inspect them for rust and dents and recertify them. I just had my 1979 Worthington recertified.
Main thing is having to have new OPD valves installed ($20-$30 each), which in my case eliminated the neat level gages.
Haven't found any OPD's with level gages.

I have found an adorable 1969 SS. About 26 ft. long. Pretty good shape. What would the value of it be? They are asking $4,500. Is that a good deal?

By Carolyn F on Thursday, July 29, 2004 - 11:50 am:

To Mario, I'm going go look at a Silver Streak today. It's a 30 ft, 1979, and they are asking $5000. It had been restored, don't know how long these folks have had it or how long ago it was restored. He said it is in good condition but rust under one wheel well. I didn't know aluminum would rust?? Anyway I'm going to take a look today.

Found another 34 foot, well actually 3411, a 1983 but it had been flood damaged and had a salvage title but fixed up, I was afraid to get it, had some work to be done on it, but very little. They would have taken $6500 but I backed out. You know basically when they are that age I think it is pretty much what anyone is willing to pay. I've seem them higher and lower.

We have never owned one of these but the more I read about them the more excited I am getting. I orginally intended to buy it to rent out, now I think it might be something I want to keep for us to use.

They sold the 79 before I got there. It must have been a good one.

Yours is indeed very attractive. You have no couch in the living area? I guess we like to lounge to much for just a table and chairs.

I already bought one, it's a 1983, 35 ft Silver Streak. There is room for a small table and chairs and a couch, chair, and possibly end table. It has a salvage title, yes I know. But it got caught in the 94 Houston flood, they said the water was in and out, who knows but if it was it sure wasn't hurt from what I can see so far. Mr Ashby here in Conroe apparently reconditioned it. I had never heard of Silver Streaks before or this gentlemen and I live here. After I saw this one and started researching about it, it's amazing what a small world this is. When the lady that sold it told me about him redoing it I figured it must be ok so I took a chance. Hubby will be home Wed and we will pick it up Thursday, I'm so excited. Initially I wanted to buy it because it was a good size and someone could live in it comfortably, I have one RV rented out and was going to put this one on a lot and rent it to, but the more I've read and learned I'm not sure we will do that. We might keep it for ourselves. However since we are 58 can't retire yet and hubby works away most of the time it might not be practical, we shall see. But still I am totaly excited.

Good luck on selling yours to.

To Carolyn F,

Any vehicle with a salvage title means either it was so severely damaged it was reconstructed to such a large extent it became a new vehicle, or it was stolen and usually vandalized and the insurance company paid off the owner and then sold it to a wrecking yard. A flood that was high enough to enter the trailer had to be at least three feet off the ground. That means water entered the aluminum wrapped underbelly and contacted the steel frame. Rusting of the aluminum and/or steel may have resulted. Once started, it will eat up the trailer. You mentioned work had to be done.....
At $6500, you may be paying too much. A completely remodeled 33 foot (largest made) Silver Streak from Tucson, AZ. recently sold on ebay for $9000. I sold a 1976 33 foot completely remodeled with low voltage lighting throughout in April on ebay for $7800. Our current 1976 Rocket has the factory sofa which folds over into a bed. It was located on the left side, continuing from the kitchen counter. We never re-installed it after putting in new carpet in May. I would advise you to research the reason behind the salvaged title and inspect the frame, even if it means pulling away the underside or "belly pan". You may be buying a rotting trailer.

By C frederick on Wednesday, August 04, 2004 - 01:00 am:

Well since I already purchased it its a little late. Yes I am aware a frame can rot, from what I could see it looked fine, but so much was not visible but what I could see was not rusted, the worse for wear. The visible frame had not been painted for sometime. Also in walking all over it inside it did not feel soft anywhere. The work I know of is where the battery acid had dripped on the gas lines and made a hole over time in them and that needs replaced. I looked underneath in a lot of places and opened doors, I didn't see any deterioration in the skin underneath but of course I realize it could be hidden. The inside just needs some cleaning and I didn't like the kitchen flooring but it was in good condition. The interior is in great condition. But as I said who knows about the mechanical systems. I have been lucky in the used cars and trailers I've purchased so far, let's hope this one won't be my downfall and yes I knew it was a bit high but the person would not come down. She had been trying for quite some time to sell it for $10000 with no takers, a divorce and needing money.

If the frame does look rusted we only have to move it about 10 to 15 miles to its ultimate resting place and I imagine hubby could reinforce it for use there. I will know more Thursday or Friday.

Since Mr Ashby knew it had gotten wet I wonder if he would have treated the frame. He is the one that redid it.

And I'm sure hubby will remove the bellypan and look underneath. I know "cavete emptor", let the buyer beware

By the way the 1979 I was going to look at the seller said there was rust under a wheelwell and I thought that was odd as I didn't think aluminum rusted. The wheel wells are aluminum are they not?

But thank you for the information. We will know by week end most likely and I will post the results here.

A 33 foot is the largest made? This 1983 is 34'11" or are you speaking of a different model.

The title says Silver Streak CT, is that Continental ? ?

Hello, I have a 74 continental rocket 28 silverstreak. I spent 4 months rebuilding the interior. It has a custom all light birechwood interior ,ceiling and walls. All the trim is vg fir ,as is the facing on the cabinets. THe floor is a pergo birch floor. I reconfigured the trailer bathroom area, leaving the tub -shower and its partition, and took out the sink and toilet, building there front to back ,a double bed. Therre is a toilet forward of that, and forward of that a desk 4 ft in length and across is a settee 4 ft in length. In front is the split galley, with vg fir faced cabinets and selving storage , with a Stainless steel sink and countertop. In front is the original dinette area with sleeping for two with the table down. I put in a new furnace . It is for sale for 15bk B/O . There are few silverstreaks with such a custom interior. I have photos to send to a serious buyer. TIm at 415 713 6876

We are the proud owners of a 1954 Silver Streak Clipper. It was found in a barn in Ignacio, CO two summers ago. The first thing we did when we got it home was to take out everything an set it out in the yard. That included the benches, bed, stove, cabinets and refrigerator. Everything. We fixed the soft places in the floor, put down some new floor covering, carpet, and started putting it back together again. It still has the original formica, all the glass is original and it hasn't ever been remodeled. During this time it got all new wiring, new gas lines and tanks, new water lines and a new water tank. The original refrigerator and stove work, thank goodness.
I was disappointed to find out that the dark green paint on the whole inside was original. I still want to take it all off, but Dave says we should leave it. I feel like I'm in a cave. I did strip the paint off at the table area. I repainted it a creamy ivory color. Beautiful! Even Dave admitted he likes it better.
Now for my question; What can be used to clean up the exterior? We tried buffing compound and that works, kind of. It looks like someone poured milk all over it. I really don't mind that it isn't so shiny, but the whiteness is streaky.
Now for my tip; We were wondering and wondering what to use to take ratty old paint off in several places where someone painted over a rubbed spot on the outside with silver paint. Also, someone through the years thought to paint the diamond shape over the wheel wells, under the door cover and the handle on the door screen with five different colors of paint. Well, one Saturday mornigh while Dave was teaching our young son how to check the brakes and fill the thingy with brake fluid he said, "be careful though because brake fluid takes off paint." He looked at me and we grabbed a rag and tried it. Well, it works. It reminds me of taking paint off of wood with paint remover, but of course it leaves the aluminum in great shape.
I'd love to hear from you. rhonda

How much does a 19' 1972 Sabre weigh? We don't have a clue whether our 6-cyl. 2000 Toyota 4Runner could pull it.

I own a 1957 32' SS. It needs some resto, but isn't past hope. The original plastic tiles are still in the bathroom (which has a tub), but is in the worst condition of the whole thing. What is the best way to strip the peeling interior paint for a redo? What might it be worth I decide to sell? Would anyone be interested? I
have an open Florida title. I'm in Fingerlakes in Upstate New York.

I have a 1962 ss that i think is 18 ft long for sale. I have no idea what a fair price would be. Everything is original except the fridge. Water damage on the wood @ the back window and the front window. Floor is solid as far as i know. AC needs work. I am not sure about the plumbing because i have never used it. Everything else is in good shape. Any Ideas???
