I am looking at a 73 SS 26' that looks like new inside *but* the outside shows it's weather wear. I don't think it ever saw shade! I would like to make an offer but the skin is in bad shape (no dents). I was told that it has "anodized" aluminum, thus may not be able to shine like the skin of an Airstream. Just what is "anodized" aluminum and is there any hope to restore some shine to the skin? Would appreciate email reply, but I'll check this board just in case. Thank you
Eddie in San Jose

By Tom Patterson on Sunday, April 01, 2001 - 09:31 am:

Eddie,
The anodized aluminum is a gray aluminum color and does not have a brilliant mirrlr like shine. You are not looking at "weather wear" as you call it, but rather the natural color. Some folks have used WD-40 to provide a shine, and I would think that wax too would help the shine. There has been a little discussion elsewhere on this discussion board and on the Streamline one about polishing these anodized finishes.

Tom, thanks. I did find that thread re: the finish of a SS. It offered a wealth of information, better than what I could've found in a book. Thanks guys!
I have contacted Cheyanne re: their '79 SS in Wash. state. Hey, anyone up there driving south? Maybe tow it to the Oregon/California border? (Hornbrook) For a fee?

Hi to all you Silver Streak owners.
I thought my Dad was nuts when he showed me his
trailor 71 SS Delux, and said it was a great
tailer. It just looked old to me. Now dear Dad is passed away and I got the chance to go inside and realy check it out. tons of storage, all the comforts of home. I'm amazed at how well it is constructed. Still, I don't get the green windows though? What's with that? I do like it but am going to sell it because of a storage problem. I think someday I will get another one! If anyone is interested in it please call me at 916-837-6626
I live in Sacramento , CA. There is no sofa and don't know why but one could be put in.
PS love this Web sight!! You all sound like your having a ball camping and having athe time of your life. Someday I will retire and join ya all!!

We purchased a Silver Streak,1971 model, 26", says deluxe and continental next to entrance.
We were wondering if you could be so kind and share your access to Silver Streak related websites/infos. We would like to find out about the history of the company, detailed information about our model that lets us evaluate if the trailer is in original condition, interior, etc. We did not get any manuals, which we would like to purchase. We hope there are equally as many helpfull enthusiastic followers of SS as their are with Airstreams. We were planning to buy an Airstream, but liked the attention to detail, the thoughtfull layout and features of the SS better when compared to 1977,27', International landyacht.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I am interested in buying a 1972 SiolverStreak which I have found for sale. Asking price is $2800. It is described in being in good condition with brakes and tires having been replaced 4 years ago and nearly zero miles since then. Being sold by a daughter of the owner who passed recently and did not use in the last years of his life. Brief sale description is "34 foot. Stainless steel water tank, full bath & shower, solid oak paneling, gas stove & oven. Two twin Serta matresses. Outside looks great. Needs work on the inside." I got the following email from the seller
>> The outside actually looks great. No dents, scratches, or other mars
>> that I can think of in the body. It probably just needs a bath. A
>> couple of the louvered windows are cracked, but still there.
>>
>> The interior is what needs work. It needs the frig replaced. There
>> are no curtains and no carpeting. There are 12" tile squares in most
>> of it, but it looks line the guy that had it before put tile up to
>> the furniture he had in it. One of the kitchen cabinets needs a new latch.
>>
>> It has no furniture except the two twin beds with new mattresses (4
>> years ago, but never been used).
>>
>> My dad bought it 4 years ago planning on living in it, but plans fell
>> through. It's been storage for 4 years. The guy he bought it from had
>> been living in it, and replaced the tires and brakes at the time of
>> the sale.
>>
>> I have no idea what kind of brakes it has. My sister towed it here
>> from Arizona when my dad bought it. I've been told that a 3/4 ton
>> truck would do fine.
>>
>> I also don't know much about the hitch. I'm guessing that it is a
>> distributing hitch, but not sure. And yes the hitch is included.
So other then I'd like to find a vintage aluminum skinned trailer I don't know a lot. I do sort of like these better then the popular Airstreams, although I couldn't quite tell you why. If folk here could say a few words that might guide me as to the desireability of a unit like this and how the price sounds I would be very greatful. Regards Dave mailto:sharpenuff@verizon.net
