1968 Silver Streak

Silver Streak Message Board: Message Board Postings: 1968 Silver Streak
By Tom Patterson on Unrecorded Date:

I went up to Longview, Texas today to pick up my Streamline from Borden Country RV where I had some work done on it. On the way, in Longview, I spotted what turned out to be a 1968 Silver Streak for sale at a used car dealer. I took the following pictures, in which you Silver Streak folks might be interested in seeing.

I had no intention of buying it, but of course had to ask the price. I was told that they had $5100 in it, but "make an offer"! They said, and it did appear that the appliances (refrigerator, microwave and hot water heater) were all new. The hot water heater was larger than the 6 gallon size now mostly used. You can see the new white refrigerator vent on the outside curbside. The inside had been painted with an interior flat white paint. I wonder what the original finish was. Interestingly enough, there are similarities to my '65 Streamline. The handle outside the door, which contains the porch light is the same as on my trailer. The lettering "Silver Streak" on the front is similar. This unit too has the Bargman Traillite 99 reflectors for the taillights, and they are even in fair condition.

Hi Tom, You sure got me interested and puzzled.
I know that trailer says Silver Streak but everything there looks more like a Streamline don't you think?? No wrap around windows in the
front, the narrower gold trim on the sides and the louver window in the door. I thought all SS had the plug screen doors. and as you say the door
handle and the lettering do not look like an SS.
Do you suppose that someone parked a Streamline and a Silver Streak too close together and they had offspring???

By Tom Patterson on Saturday, July 15, 2000 - 10:00 pm:

Hi Carl,
Yes, it does look a lot like a Streamline, including the rain guard over the door. No question though that the trailer said Silver Streak on both the front and back. The gold on the sides appears to be paint, which has pretty much faded out. It was not the annodized aluminum that both Streamline and, I think, Silver Streak used.
Might have to get some expert opinions and comments on this one.

I rescently purchased a 17 foot Silverstreak. 1968. I am beginning to work on it to put in usable condition. I need a hot water tank and possibly a refrigerator. Should I go to the pains to keep it original or does it really matter?
Also are there any parts available?

I'm looking at a Silver Streak 1968 Sabre model 23. It's in very good original condition. I wonder what the value and pitfalls of this trailer might be. I'm also interested in comparing the pros and cons of the Avion, Airstream, Silver Streak, and Streamline 1960's trailers that are 22-24 feet long. I hope that someone out there can help me. Sc

Where can I find some pics of a 32' streamline with 2 tip outs.Where are the weights posted and some remodeling tips. What would be a good price if outside is in good shape however, inside needs remodeling totally.

Thanks,

We have found a Silverstreak 22' Tandam trailer for sale for $1000. It needs a lot of work. Is it worth fixing it up?
Or are we just throwing our money away?
My husband thinks he could fix it up for $3000.
Wouln't we be better off to just find one for
the combined $4000?

Hard to say. How much would you have to pay to fix up the one you found for $4,000?

My neighbor has a 68 Silver Streak Sabre for sale and wants $1200.00 for it. Outside and inside is in good condition. Needs some repairs ( windows, back storage door. etc.) She says the ref., stove, AC, and heater all work. Needs tires. Is this a good price? Any input would be appreciated. Are these hard to get parts for? What size truck do I need to pull it? Thanks.

Suggest you sign up to the Silver Streak e-mail list on this site. There has been discussion as to having some emblems made in the past week or so.
