Hello and good day to you all,

I just purchased a 1974 ss continnetal. Lots of good info on here, this site is great. The trailer is in good shape exterior wise and decent inside other than lots and lots of cleaning which i've already started.
I intent to paint or refinish the cupboards, cabinets and walls,
install a new floor,
and rebuild the living room set up.

i have lots of ideas but not sure exactly which way to go yet. I'm wonderign if anyone has advice or input on doing any of the projects i listed above.

I almost forgot, everything works inside except the hot water heater which for some reason is completely de-plumbed, and the plumbing rerouted. Yet they didn't bother to remove it. SO, I'm not sure if it works or not. Should i just remove it and get a new one?
it seems to me they wouldn't have bothered to do all the plumbing changes if it was working, but if it wasn't working why wouldn't they remove it?

thanks for any help you can provide, joe

It is possible that it was plumbed around to ease the winterizing process. The water heater is always a problem so that may be the reason. There is no easy way if it is electric to check it as if switched on while element is in empty tank is will burn it out. If gas you should be able to light for a short period of time. There is not much to fix on one unless the tank is leaking. The electric element and gas can be replaced.

Good Luck

Jim

thanks for the response, for some reason i didn't see it on the regular postings page, haha i found it while i was doing a search on painting the walls and ceilings. Strange.

The water heater is gas, i'm gonna get a guy up here who knows about plumbing, hopefully he can see if it works still. It's a pain cause I'm ready to go with the floors but i don't want to do anything till i get this plumbing figured out, just in case.

Any advice on painting the walls or cabinets?
I was thinking re paint the ceiling and walls the same white or off white color and possibly stripping and revarnishing the cupboards with a lighter color to brighten it up a bit, but still keep the wood look because i'm going to do the floors in a snap ( like tongue and groove) laminate wood. so the floors will match the cabinets nad the walls will match the ceiling. what do you think?

I almost forgot the black water dump valve was stuck open, so i hammered it shut, now it won't open again no matter how hard i pull, is that an easy thing to replace?
