My Wife and I just purchased this beauty and are very excited to get it out!! I have very limited info on it ie: tongue weight, dry weight, tire size (as it will need four new ones) I can only read 7.00x15 on the side walls. I read some where that bias ply is better than radials (ture or not?) Overall it is in great shape, a good cleaning and some TLC we will be ready to go. Any info or tips to get it trip worthy would be great!! Thanks in advance and this site is great

Installing new tires is the #1 thing to do. I hear that bias ply tires are stronger, thats why most trailer tires are bias ply. I would also repack the wheel bearings and make sure the brakes work properly and are adjusted. I've also been investigaing weights because I plan on pulling a 32ft SS with a 05 Dodge 1/2 ton with the Hemi. The 32ft trailers are just below 6000 lbs with a tounge weight of about 700 lbs. On Tompatterson.com in the Silver Streak trailer section, there is a brochure on the 1974 models which is basically the same as yours and it shows all the specs.

My husband pulled a 35 ft 1983 Silver over 1000 miles with a 2001 Ford F-150 Supercrew. It is equipped with a towing package, lower geared, transmission cooler, etc. He had no problems at all with it, said it pulled great. The trailer weighed 6400 pounds. Remember they showed pictures of them being pulled with cars. I'm sure a bigger truck might be required in mountains but ours was fine through Texas, Oklahoma, and into Iowa.

Definitely keep the bias ply tires. I have heard horror stories about radials coming apart and tearing up Silver Streaks or causing fires. You can typically get a set(4) of 7.00 x 15 load range D for around $300. I posted info on the site regarding wheel bearing parts availability if you need that info. You may run into parts problems otherwise if you take it in without checking first.
