Cleaning the roof

Silver Streak Message Board: Message Board Postings: Cleaning the roof

We bought a ladder that I can reach way over on the roof from. I also have a long brush to clean the top with, but I want to remove the old sealants around everything up there vents, etc and wonder if it is safe to get on top. I doubt the sealants have ever been replaced. Nothing leaks but my husband thinks they need to be replaced also.

What would be a good sealant to use?

It is safe to get on top if you do the following things. First, get a 4x8 sheet of 1/2" plyboard and glue, do not staple, foam rubber to one side.

Then use the 4x8 sheet, foam rubber side down, on top of the trailer to disperse your weight evenly across the frame / forms of the trailer. The 4x8 sheet should cover 3 to 4 seams very nicely and this will keep your roof from denting and allow you to work on top safely.

I found that 2 pcs. of plywood 2'x4' worked better for me.

That's what we did on our white box RV but I thought this one might be strong enough to get on, hubby said no also, glad I didn't.

Good news from here. I had bought it either to rent out or possibly for him to use on a job. He said tonight he thinks it is much to nice to rent out we will keep it for our use! Yah Rah! I had been telling him all the things written about them and he decided he really likes what I bought afterall. We have work to do on it, have not had time but it will get done one day. I kept telling him all the good things I read on these boards so that really helped. I'm one "happy camper".
