Hi Folks I was recently given a 1968 26' Silver Streak Continental Deluxe travel trailer and am in the process of restoring it. I am also looking for a Club Association and others who have gone through some of the restoring pain that could give me some suggestions on HOW or WHAT to do. Thanks

RC819,I have just purchased a 1977(???)SS,Cont.Supreme.I wanted tochange the paneling to a lighter color,a lot of work but it has paid off,i found rotted flooring as of tonight i have the trl gutted from the stove to the front window. The floor had been carpeted and i tore it up as far as the sliding door at the bedroom. The furnace had a gallon of mud dobbers and wasp nest, the pilot ignites properly but the main burner won't light, may be the gas valve?Does anyone know of a replacement or retro-fit? THere's many more things,(big or small) depends on the owner. My wife and i are full-timers and living in 25ft Aljo w/slide,can't wait for the move to the SS.Good luck,The Travel Team.

I just put about 680.00 into my Streamline. It is posted on the Streamline page. Carpet, kitchen flooring and comforters can brighten up these trailers considerably. I have done this several times. I originally had Hunter green but decided that is made the trailer too small looking inside.
I have moved to neutrals as in white, soft blues and nice tan for carpeting and kitchen floor. You can also remove the fridge panel and cover the wood panel in a nice vinyl of any color. I used white to match the walls above the paneling and counters in the kitchen. This is an inexpensive way to add lighter colors. Also, adding flourescent lighting does wonders for these 70's trailers to brighten them up. I chose to keep the original paneling because I did not want to strip away the vintage things that attracted me to the trailer. You may want to re-paint the vinyl clad walls and ceiling in a white paint. I did this about 5 years ago and it has held up very well. The ceiling tends to yellow with age and cooking.
Hope this helps...Check out the Streamline site in Tom's website.

I have a 1965 18' SS. Getting it ready for a move to Alaska this coming spring. Much work to do to make it liveable for my wife and myself. Have read where folks have painted the interior white. This is what I'm wanting to do as the surface has yellowed over time. Anybody know what would be the best type of paint to use? In addition, I'm wanting to replace the stock furnace which is a Coleman, I believe. Could never get it to work from when I originally purchased it a few years ago. What would be a good cold weather(south-central Alaska) furnace that I could replace the Coleman with. Oh, one more thing. Does anybody know how these rigs do in severe cold weather(high 30s to -0)? Any preparatory measures I can take to insure comfortable living quarters? THANKS!

I just bought a 1974 33' Silver Streak Continental Supreme. Going through it I noticed the floor had some rot in the wood in the front right corner and by the door. Also a little in the front left corner. Has anyone replaced the floor boards in a similar trailer. They appear to go under the aluminum frame and I am concerned about how to get them out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It can mean removing the shell from the frame in order to replace the floor. Possibly you might be able to use a product called "Git Rot" to fix the soft spots. I suggest that you use the "Search Site" function on the home page of this site to see what others have done with their Airstreams. There are a number of postings on the subject.

Hello, i just purchased a 1958 23' Silver Streak Clipper, rear bath model. I have a lot of joy in front of me as it was painted white sometime in the past which actually did well to preserve the shell. I do need help with some parts and would really appreciate any parts sources that anyone can send me to. best regards, jim

my mom and dad just bought a 1974 silver streak camper.(1000.00) the mattresses are not true twin size mattresses. they have one but are having trouble finding the size for the other one. anyone have any idea where to get a 33"x77" mattress? also is 1000.00 a good price. they are remodling the inside.

A local mattress company should be able to make one for you.

By 71sssaber on Friday, November 25, 2005 - 05:48 pm:

Banner Mattress was one of the manufacturers/vendors used by Silver Streak. They are still in business. bannermattress.net 424 South "I" Street San Bernardino, CA 92410
Also take a look at http://www.vintageairstream.com/rr_topics_pricevscondition.html
This is for Airstreams, but you will find restoration and repair expenses about the same as those listed, for your Silver Streak. Parts manufactured by SS will be hard to replace.
