How can scoring of the hitch ball be prevented? I installed a new ball this year. I always use grease, a heavy duty wheel bearing type. I clean all the old dirty grease from the ball and from the coupler socket after every trip. Still I get scoring. There is no scoring in the coupler. Perhaps the steel of the coupler is harder?
With the old ball I used Reese hitch ball oil. It was no better.
