I just bought a 1967 18' SS Sabre and want to change the propane tanks. I will use it for trips up to 3 weeks and would appreciate information on how large the tanks should be, and where to purchase the best aluminum tanks. Thank you. Paul

You will probably need to change the tanks anyway because the old ones do not have OPD valves. I use aluminum tanks myself, and have found they take a real nice shine with aluminum polish. Check prices at http://www.airstreamdreams.com for 30 lb. tanks.

OPD valves should fit OK. You will, though, lose the nifty gages and the LP level gages on the panel inside.
OPDs cost me $20 each installed. Some suppliers wanted $35 each.
The LP supply did warn that sometimes the threads strip when changing valves in aluminum tanks.
They also recertified the tanks, which had not been recertified since new in 1979.
The tanks on my Supreme Saturn are 40#.
If tanks are over 45# they don't have to have OPDs.
