Silver Streak Message Board: Message Board Postings: Wealth of Information
By Doug Reynolds on Friday, March 31, 2000 - 04:17 pm:

I want to share any information I can about Silver Streaks.
I have a 1977 Silver Streak Continental Supreme
I have rebuilt or replaced nearly everything in the trailer. I am very mechanically minded, and have learned through trial and error all about the operations and designs of the Silver Streaks.
I also have the original Owner's manual, which includes a lot of info including wiring diagrams.
I have the original 1977 full line color brochure for Silver Streak.
And as well the same thing for the 1995 Silver Streak, "Sterling" line.
I do not have a scanner, or digital camera, but would be willing to copy and mail anything.

Owning a Silver Streak is a distinctive honor. They were fine trailers, made with pride, and meticulously crafted and designed. Many, Many, Thanks, to Tom Patterson for allowing us all a way to network! I hope that through this site, we can all learn from each other about our units, and share information.
It has often greived me that there is no real way for Silver Streakers to come together. We can not let our heritage of being involved in this legacy die out! Although, I certainly am going to look into this Texas Silver Streak Club. This is the first organization that I have heard of in 7 years of ownership!
Many happy miles to you all with your Silver Streak hitched behind!!!!

Hiya Doug,

I emailed you about my trailer but I will continue on with the group so maybe we can all work together as a team. I have a 1976 34' Continental and it has been sitting for years in Canada in the rain and snow. I just brought it down to Yuma Arizona and put it on my property in the foothills. It is most definately in need of a good polish and according to my Dad (from whom I inherited the trailer) everything was in perfect working order other than the knobs for the fridge were missing and definately a hard to find item. Dad modified the living area of the trailer and painted the interior white. I would love to have a copy of your owners manual and especially the wiring diagram. I noticed that some of the running lights have missing lenses. Where would you source them from? I am excited about this forum and hope that we will be able to use it to work together. Thanks!

Hey Andy-
I'm sending you another letter, but will tell you a few things here as well. I am so glad you found this site. You will find the whole brochure on this site. Tom posted it under "Trailers". Go to the top of this page. Click on Silver Streak Message Board, then when the next page comes up, click on "Trailers", when you get there, click on Silver Streak, and then to brochures: 1977. You will find this brochure is almost exactly the same as your trailer. The only floor plans for that year I have ever seen were done as they are in the brochure. Silver Streak didn't change their trailers much through the 70's except to use different appliances and such, different years. As far as your lenses, I replaced all of mine and the fixtures, as they were faded from the sun. You can get them at most RV places. They sell the lenses and or the whole thing, the brand is "Signal Stat". They also might be Barrageman (spell). The colors are red on back, and amber on sides. I wish I had known you a few years ago when I replaced my refrigerator with a new one, same brand, you could have had the knobs! You can go to a RV repair place, that swaps out old units, and I bet they can help you. Or of course they can be obtained from Dometic. The wiring diagram I have, and will try to get it scanned for you. The owner's manual is quite lengthy but I will copy it for you too. I will write you and find out what appliances you have with models. Silver Streak put the manuals for about 3 different models of each appliance in their manuals. The reason they did this, was they sometimes switched at the last minute certain brands of appliances, and "covered" the bases by including copies of all the different manuals. I would wager you have the RM 100 Dometic 3 way Refrigerator though!

OK I admit I have given up on getting the Hot water to flow in my 74 30' SS Continital supreme. I have been able to light it and there is a bypass line between the inlet and outlet water lines but I have turned them in every configeration and no hot watter to the faucets. I noticed thare are three valves in the converter compartment? I know it can work because it did just last month when we bought it. Any Ideas?

By Tom Kelly on Tuesday, September 05, 2000 - 09:46 pm:

Drill Sergeant,
Assuming that your plumbing is correct, one line for water in one for water out of the heater, for water flow the three valves in the converter compartment should be- left valve open, center and right valves closed. Hope this helps. I had a tough time figuring out my 74 32' Continental Supreme also. Now drop and give me twenty!

By Carl Rodgers on Wednesday, September 13, 2000 - 06:43 pm:

Drill Sargeant, Drop me a line and give me your address and I will mail you a copy of a drawing I received when I bought my 77 that shows how the valves and pipes are connected when a pump (electric) is installed. do you have an electric pump on yours? Carl Rodgers

Just bought a 1978 SilverStreak and do have most of the original book. Don't have anything in my manual about the awning. Also does anyone know where you can find someone to work on the refrigerators or buy replacements?

By Tom Patterson on Thursday, April 19, 2001 - 08:58 pm:

Use the search engine on this site. There have been postings about refrigerator repairs and replacements on one or both of the Airstream e-mail lists in the past, and they are archived on the site. Go to the home page and click on "Search Site"

Does anyone know how to get a reputable appraisal on a 1950 Silver Streak Clipper?

By Doug on Sunday, September 16, 2001 - 04:10 pm:

Because I am traveling full-time in my Silver Streak, it is harder for me to copy or E-mail information for fellow Silver Streakers. However, I still try to answer questions when I can via E-Mail, which is linked to my name. There is quite a bit of information posted on the Brochure section of this site, for those that have never looked there.

By gee_orge on Sunday, April 07, 2002 - 09:12 pm:

Jennifer,
I reciently bought a 1952 SS Clipper, after looking for one for a long time. So I had plenty of time to research prices etc. Mine was 80% original inside and needed a few cosmetic repairs on the outside. I feel that I got a good deal at $1200.00. You will find that Clippers Start at about $1,000.00 and go up from there, depending on condition....original equipment etc....Check the ads posted on this website, and others. Especially those with pictures and see what they are asking....Something is only worth what someone else will pay for it.
I hope this helps,
George

I have a '79 Supreme Saturn 32' (31'-1").
With this trailer I have the original manual, order documents, invoice, and separate manuals and brochures for most of the equipment, plus some things that are no longer with the trailer (such as old style K-H brake controllers).
Western Wheel mag wheel data.
Coleman Presidential furnace manual.
Magic Chef range manual and parts manual.
Coleman A/C manual & documents.
Instamatic A/C (heat pump) manual.
Dometic RM-100 etc. manual.
Thetford toilet manual & brochure.
If anyone really needs any of this stuff, I can make copies and send them to you.

I just purchased a 1958 18 ft Silver Streak. I think it was sitting in a puddle for a while. I have ripped out 99% of the flooring. I need information on replacing the frayed wiring and plumbing. I paid $895 for it so I don't mind replacing a few things. The outside is good but it needs a new belly pan. Anyone know an easy way to remove rivets? Any information or manuals would be helpful.

I just drill out rivets when I need to remove them.

Becky,
There is an owners manual on this web site for download. I just obtained a 1972 SS, I down loaded the owners manual and found it very helpfull. I believe the manual did not change much over a 10 year period between 1968 and 1978. Someone on this forum may be able to give you more info. I have little experience with SS and very little knowledge. I do believe the SS's are great trailers and intend to use mine a lot, and keep it a long time.

Unfortunately the postings on this forum are rather few and far between, so please read all of the previous postings, I found I learned quit a bit from the Fourm, even though some of the data was 5 years old.

Regards,

Ralph

hi Doug,
I have a 1964 silver streak trailer. It is a 32'. I am wondering what it might be worth now. It is in good condition on the out side and fair condition, ready to be restored on the inside. It has been lived in and camped in for years so it does need TLC. Is there a club that restores these? Please email me at:
deneecelamb@comcast.net or at grneyes_55_2003@yahoo.com

I have a 1958 Clipper, all original, that needs some of the hookup wiring replaced. Both circuits have blown fuses, thanks to my kids plugging too many ceramic heaters in at the same time. Does anyone know the location of the fuses?
