Little bracket by sewer hookup??

Silver Streak Message Board: Message Board Postings: Little bracket by sewer hookup??
By Doug Reynolds on Friday, March 31, 2000 - 03:44 pm:

Does anyone know what the little hanger bracket that is riveted to the body of my Silver Streak is for. I have never figured it out. It is right behind the sewer hookup area, right above the waist line of the trailer. It is riveted to the outside wall of the trailer. I also thought maybe it was for the sewer lines somehow...maybe there was a bracket that hooked into it, and held the lines up somehow. It is below the electrical box too. It is obvious it is something that was put on there when it was built. And it definitely had some sort of purpose. The manual and brochure doesn't mention it at all.

Hi Doug,
Can you post a picture of the bracket? This board will accept pictures as part of the message. (Check out the formatting to the left under Documentation) This might help in identifying the bracket.

Tom-
Wish I could....don't have a digital camera.
The bracket is right above the "black bumper trim" area, between the water valve access door and the water heater access door. Rear left side of the trailer. About 1 to 2 feet from ground. It looks a little like the exterior "wall vents", but inverted, like something could be hooked into it.(It is not, however, open to the wall like the wall vents are). It is about 3 to 4 inches wide, two inches or so long, and sticks out like a little envelope about 1/4 inch from the exterior wall of the trailer. Looks like a hanger of some sort.... It is installed with Rivets, not pop rivets, but not Olympic either, they have a little dimple in the center. I know.... what a mystery!!......But if a person has one on their trailer it is quite noticeable as it is the only such looking thing on the exterior of the trailer...It has a purpose...but for the life of me, I don't know what...something must be missing that goes with it..

Doug,
I am going over to the lot where I store my 1972 Streamline later today. There is also a Silver Streak normally stored in the same lot. If it is there, I will take a look and see if I can see the same bracket on it. If so, I will take a picture and post it on the board.

Tom, I looked in the "owner's manual", it shows factory pictures of the unit, sides, front etc. However the bracket is not on the one in the manual. Of Course these manuals are not always current production photos. I appreciate your efforts.........Doug

Doug,
Here is a picture of the rear left side of the SS in the lot where I store my trailers. I don't see a bracket quite like the one you describe.

Tom you are so nice to go take a picture of that beautiful old "queen" of the road for me. Yea, you are right the bracket is missing.....this trailer is not a 77 however, someday I will know what the bracket is for.....maybe was only installed on a few different years of trailers.... The little bracket would be right between the two lower access doors in the picture, right above the lower gold trim.
Thank you for your effort........

Hi Doug. I have a 77 SS model 2800. I don't have the little bracket you're talking about on mine. It sound like something someone has added it. from the location it sounds like a water hose support or posiblly a support / holder for your electical cable??? I read in one of your earlier emails that your gold was faded or gone like mine. I used Krylon Brass paint and repainted mine and it came out very nicely and looks pretty much like original. I'll try to get a picture to you of mine so you can get a good idea. C. Rodgers

Wonderful to find someone else with a 1977 SS!!
The little bracket looks like it was factory installed. I repainted mine with Ace Gold Plate, they look great but not as nice as the original factory tint. Maybe soon I can post a picture of the bracket for everyone, I have a friend with a digital camera. It looks just like a wall vent but upside down like something is suppose to hook into it. It only extrudes from the wall of the unit about 1/4 of an inch.

Doug, I'll bet a dime to a donut that your mistery bracket is a bracket to hold an exterior water filter. I've seen several trailers with one of those fairly large cannister type in-line filters mounted like that. Just thought of that after my last Email Carl R.

Hey All-
We probably will never know what this bracket is for...But I thought I would post a picture of it to see if anyone else has one like it. Hope it works.......

Take a look under "The Real Story" posting on this board. It indicates there that these are "weep holes". I have the same thing on my Streamline, and have been told that they are there in order to allow the walls to "breathe".

Forgot to add in prior message:

Please note: in the picture above, the bracket is at the bottom of the picture, right above the bottom gold trim piece. It is not open to the wall, like the "wall vent" above it, but rather is attached to the skin, like something is suppose to hang from it....SORRY, I forgot to be more clear when I posted the picture. You will note also that it is inverted, if it was "open" to the wall, the wall would fill up with water....Hope someone else can find one on their trailer!!

Could this be.......a mounting point for an outside table, My 67 has two of these outside on the curbside, so happens that the table mounts with 2 inside.

I have a 1968 SS and I do NOT have that mystery bracket on my camper. If this helps out.

Perhaps to hang a "flag" to help line up with the sewer hookup? It's not on mine.
