Plug-in Porch Light

Plug-in Porch Light
This type of outdoor light was found on some travel trailers in the 1950s and 1960s and possibly even before and after these dates. It was used to provide a greater amount of illumination than was available from smaller lights provided by the trailer manufacturer which had been designed to avoid damage from wind and objects which might occur while the trailer was moving. This type of light could be removed and stored away before moving the trailer, yet provided sufficient light in the camping area for family activities. The light was plugged into an outlet on the trailer which had a screw-on cap designed to keep the outlet weatherproof. The light itself had a screw-on retainer which served to keep the light securely affixed to the trailer.
This product is a reproduction of these earlier lights, which are no longer available. The lamp itself is metal, with a powder-coated metallic finish. It comes with the standard acorn style glass globe, and also includes a jelly jar type glass globe which can be used if desired. The fitter (or globe holder) is a standard 3 1/4" size, so that it will hold various other shaped globes which are available elsewhere. The lamp requires a standard size medium bulb base, such as those commonly found in residential use. The normal use is with 110/120 ac power, but the outlet can be wired for 12V dc so as to use a 12v bulb available from most RV supply shops. Maximum recommended bulb wattage for these lamps is 60 watts.
The product also includes an outlet with screw cap plate which can be installed on the exterior wall of the trailer. These type of outlet plates are no longer available in retail outlets, except for occasional old stock. There was no particular standard for the dimensions, or thread size on the original outlet plates, so any existing outlet plate you may have on your trailer, or old stock found elsewhere may not fit these lamps. For this reason, the product includes a new outlet and screw cap plate, as pictured on the page with the lamp. If your existing plate does not fit, just replace with the one provided; If you do not currently have such an outlet plate on your trailer, simply use the one which comes with the lamp.
The price for the lamp includes the lamp itself plus the two globes, the outlet and screw cap outlet plate, as well as all shipping and insurance costs. Shipments are to the Continental U.S. only.
