The simplest toaster for your gas stove is a three pound coffee can with 
holes drilled around the top edge and a wire hanger cut up and threaded 
through the holes to form a grid.  The can fits over almost all gas stove 
burners and funnels the heat straight up to toast quickly, and the grid 
holds the bread to be toasted (natch).  I have been using the same one for 
about fifteen years, after the last one got too blue inside and began to pit 
after about twenty five years of use.
