Bill,

You are correct about that.  Commercial truck registrations have a fee
partly based on weight.

My point was the notion of arbitrarily taxing the owner (charging for the
annual vehicle registration) based on the current "value" of the vehicle
EACH year.  This fee has nothing to do with the costs the state would incur
for allowing the vehicle on its roads.  Thus, a quality (and lighter weight
Airstream) will be charged more money over its life than a comparable (?)
SOB which may be harder to control, block more visibility, (possibly be more
dangerous) and be harder on the roads.

Once they get you in their computer, the tax revenue system goes on auto
pilot.
