[A/S] Replacing converter/charger
My original Uni-volt was replaced by a previous owner with a noisy
Maganetek unit.
The trailer is a '79 International, which has a plastic enclosure for
the Uni-volt, front and center behind the sofa. This enclosure is
vented to the outside. The previous owner installed the Magnetek unit
inside the same enclosure.
I plan to replace the Magnetek with a Progressive Dynamics model. It
will fit inside the old plastic enclosure, but I've considered removing
the enclosure and sealing up the vents, and just bolting the new
converter to the floor in that location.
Does anyone here know the reason for that Uni-volt enclosure? Did it
run so hot that it was better to vent it to the outside? Most new
converters in RV's are simply hidden away in a compartment so I assume
that removing the old enclosure would be okay.
Any ideas from others who have been here before?
