Chas,
I think any little trickle charger (2 amp or less) would
be safe enough charging two batteries.  You could put
it on a timer and only charge about 8 hours a day, also.

I bought a "smart charger" at Walmart that has a 2 amp
setting that stops charging when the batteries reach
14 volts or something like that.  Think it was about $40.
