I'm surprised also.  I used a Reese hitch for almost
20 years, replacing the bars as I went along due to
increasing hitch weights of my trailers.  My first
bars were 350 lbs., and the last set I had were 1,000
bars.  Never had a bar malfunction.  I'm using an
Equal-i-zer hitch now and the current system is rated
at 1,400 lbs.  I have a hitch heavy 30' slide out.
