on my 2003 bambi my fridge stop working on the AC. 1st thing i did was 
check the fuses. while checking the fuses i noticed that the GFI in 
the converter (located next to the fuses) had tripped. i reset the GFI 
and problem solved. yes, it needs to be plugged in and there should be 
an outlet in the general area of the fridge. i feel the GFI had 
tripped because much rain and moisture at that time.
