to your problem.  I have/had this problem with my 76.  I had a long time dealer
install a curb awning and I started getting leaks (btw, anytime you have a
trailer of a certain age, it is going to start leaking as you pull it too fast
over rough roads or walk on it or lean ladders against it.  you are flexing the
seams.   anyway, I had the semi-closed foam pad under the lid replaced and a lot
of seams fixed by the crew in Lubbock last year.

If the factory installed the awning, I would trust that they know enough to set
the awning a little lower from the bottom of the vent plate/hole.  also, if any
pressure from a leaned ladder is placed against or adjacent to the vent cap
assy, then it COULD warp the assy enough to make that cap gasket/pad not be in
sufficient contact.  

well, there are a couple of points to look at
- warpage
- replace under pad/gasket, whatever
- seal around the plate seams
- the top of the awning roll holding too much rainwater in a gusher causing it
to back up under the lid and over the raised lip of the vent hole.
