yeah, I pulled a 67 Overlander all over everywhere but the Rockies with a Dodge
Polara 318 V8  and a lowered pumpkin about 3.5n?

you all need to remember that in the 50s-early 70s, those were heavy framed,
wide tracked and long wheel base vehicles.  I still had to jack up the rear end,
install heavier leafs and air bags because of the LONG overhang of the trunk.

in the 50s, the trailers were much lighter for the weaker autos, tongue weights
were 300# or less, pull weights probly avgd about 3,000 or less.

we are not talking about the "manufactured housing"  or "house trailer" in the
LONG, LONG TRAILER Arnaz movie.  that even then was pulled normally with a
bobtailed 10 wheeler just as they are today.

also, in the 40s-50s, they were using a California hitch/wheel set up which was
simply a pair of tires on a short axle mounted under the presnt location of
today's propane tanks.  that supported all that tongue weight and allowed a 50
plymouth or Ford with a flat head 8 to pull a heavier trailer.
