Greetings Airstream Enthusiasts,
I am new to the list (wondered why I never got mail when I joined but found
out I joined the "back up" list <grin>) and the owner of a 1976 Safari.
While we haven't had it since new, it has been in the family since the late
80's. My parents originally had it and mostly kept it on a RV park for
their Florida visits. Once we bought larger property they moved it to our
property and it has been here the past 10 years. Several years back my Dad
could no longer get into the trailer so gave it to us to use - he is
chairbound with muscular dystrophy. I have taken the 2 kids camping a few
times but now that they are teens, it is a bit tight with hubby and I and
the two kids.
We have considered selling and using the money to buy a small motor home
that would have more than two beds. My kids show animals so we need
provisions to also pull a livestock trailer and have a comfy bed at our
destination. We also own a 1973 Cortez Kent motor home which is in good
running condition but when loaded my livestock trailer is just too heavy to
pull with this. It is for sale if anyone is interested. About 85K miles.
Just needs to go. Roof AC working but not dash. Fridge dead but everything
else is working. Just rebuilt the carb a couple weeks back. 5K generator
as well!
It is in good clean condition (non smokers too), I think the water pump went
out since last camping excursion (what difficulty level is this to replace?
recommendations on reasonable parts supply company???) but fridge and all
works. I am trying to get a feel for the prices these neat old rigs
command. The skin is in good condition but Daddy tried to clean the door
and seems to have dulled it. Redoing the skin is NOT a priority for me.
Dry bed, working toilet and shower and kitchen facilities is my priority
level!!!
Hope to lurk, listen and learn from everyone.
Pam in Tampa
